Visits and Voices from Heaven

+
The point for me in beginning to tell about my healing is that the Lord Jesus Christ showed mercy to a sinner like me and healed my body.  The Lord also made it clear on two occasions that He healed me through the intercession of the saints and blesseds.  He wants you to know that He wants to do this and He does it when it is within His wonderful plan for us all that we usually call the Divine Will.

After my stroke in 1999 I had a very hard road back to being able to say Mass and function as a priest in the Anglican Communion.  But I worked very hard with various therapists, and in the end very few would be able to tell from speaking with me of the great trauma that had visited my brain.

I could leave the story there, but it would not give full honour to God.  When I entered the Episcopal Hospital, it was thought that I had a pituitary tumour.  Some tests on my eyesight seemed to conclusively prove this to be the case.  After I began to experience my left leg dragging, the doctors insisted I go into hospital through the Emergency Room.

At this point stroke was far from my mind.  In fact I was certain that I had not had a stroke at that point.  The scan of the pituitary showed no tumour though it did reveal some problems.  Later Dr. Rosa Tang would point at the optic chiasm and show me the damaged evidence of one of several strokes.  Unfortunately, after the first scans no other scans were taken during my time in hospital.  Dr. Tang found this outrageous.

While on a hospital floor I experienced what my family and I knew was a stroke.  Afterward I had trouble speaking, and I could not move well.  With my mother present I experienced the room around me dissolve.  Above me standing perhaps 9 or 12 feet tall was St. Raphael the Archangel.  At my feet was St. Catherine of Sienna (I had founded an Episcopalian congregation named for her).  All around me were various saints, and I saw Mother Mary embracing my mother during all of this.

The Archangel had his wings of light extended over my body and a golden substance was falling down upon me.  I felt life ebbing away and I did not want to fight it.  St. Catherine was not happy with my unwillingness to fight for life.  It was then I noticed many people not like the saints around me.  They were in shadow with their eyes closed compared to the saints who were in light with their eyes open.  I was made to understand that these were the living praying for me at that very moment.  The realisation comforted and calmed me.

Unexpectedly, Mother Teresa of Calcutta moved from the back of the saints to come up to my body on the hospital bed.  She took her hand and struck my chest.  "Listen, Vincent, Jesus is alive in your heart!  You must hold on for Him!"  Her words penetrated my awareness like a lightning bolt, and I felt the Lord alive within me.  I had to hold onto Him and hold onto life.  This was what He required of me.

I will not tell everything just now, so let's move on.  The heavenly vision ended.  I was convinced afterward that because of it a fatal stroke had been averted.  But after the heavenly vision passes, you have to get on with the business of living.  As a stroke survivor this can be very painful and difficult, and I found it nearly impossible.

There is much more to tell about these very human things that transpired at this point.  But the only other important thing to say right now is that, whilst in a stroke recovery and rehabilitation room, I began to lose heart again.  I was slipping into deep depression not understanding why this was happening to a young man like myself.  I wanted out of my body.  At this very moment my Nigerian Catholic nurse Barbara burst into my room and announced in her beautiful accent "Mister Vincent God is having a party!"  Barbara is a Saint of God but no one knows it yet... in my humble opinion, of course!

I had no idea what she meant but she went and opened the wall of curtains to reveal the windows outside.  Beyond the glass I saw a sight I have never again seen.  It was lightning strike after lightning strike.   It would turn out to have been the most lightning strikes on record in a city in North America.

I looked at the lightning show.  I felt deep within that if God was merciful one of these lightning bolts would come into the hospital room and hit me and take  me out of my misery.  I began to weep.

Suddenly my room was filled with a tremendous voice.  I had grown up with the roar of the ocean coming into my boyhood bedroom, and this voice was much like the sound of the crashing of those waters.  The voice said to me beautifully, majestically, and distinctly "All this power and more is available for your healing."

I was a hurricane of emotions inside at this point.  I trembled and asked, "Who are you?"  And this most powerful and magnificent voice said to me very gently, "I am Jesus of Nazareth."

There was no more verbal communication, but He communicated many things to me.  I would regain full use of my body so as to take care of myself, but His healing help would need my most serious effort to recover.

So the next few years were filled with hard, hard work.  Finally, I was able to celebrate the Holy Eucharist.  I was able to be a part of a parish's life even though I had no responsibilities.  Then I was able to take services for clergy who were unavailable.  I was ready for more, but the Diocese did not want me.  I was damaged goods.  I was too much of a risk because of my brain.

I was very disappointed.  Adding to my disappointment this branch of the Anglican Communion in the USA was coming apart at the seems, taking ill advised decisions, promoting divorced individuals to the Episcopate... it really was too much for me to bear.

One day I sat in my living room.  I had watched a broadcast of Mother Angelica on television.  It wasn't very edifying, but it was amusing.  I turned off the television, and I entered into my prayers.

After the Office I finished my rosary, and I sat in the comfortable chair I had been given by my sister's father-in-law.  I rocked gently and said in my heart to the Lord.  'I don't think I'm washed up, Lord.  I still have more to give.  What should I do?'

Very swiftly the Blessed Mother Mary and St. Joseph seemed to walk through a corner wall into my living room.  I also became aware of an angel standing to my left and an angel standing to my right.

I wish I knew how to tell you of the eyes of Mother Mary and St. Joseph.  The love and compassion in them would melt the stoniest of hearts.  The first thing she said to me is this: "We have been searching all of the temples looking for you.  But you weren't in any of our temples.  You are in what has become an alien temple for us and for you.  Please, my son, come home with us."

Yes, there was more said, but those were the words that stunned all sense right out of me.  Physically I had become somewhat weakened in the weeks coming up to this, and I wondered how I would do what God the Father wanted of me.  But the next day after the visitation I had more than enough strength and a sense of well-being inside.  My parents who were watching over me were very amazed to see such a change in me physically and emotionally.  I drove into Houston, visited with a saint of a priest, and began walking the road to being reconciled with the once dreaded Church of Rome.

I found I could not speak of the heavenly visit save to the priest.  I struggled to explain to my family.  I did a very bad job of it.  I alienated some I had wanted to bring with me.  I thought my sister might come with me because she had had a powerful dream of the Blessed Mother standing and knocking at the door of the Chapel of the Holy Family in our childhood parish with the Mother Mary telling her with tears. 'I knock and knock, but no one will let me in.'  But my sister discerned a different path that kept her and her family in the Episcopal Church.  They attend a splendid Episcopalian parish named interestingly enough for St. Peter.  It is most definitely not an alien temple for the Holy Family.

Along those lines I later learned that while it was very difficult to find an Episcopal Church that was not an "alien temple"  it could be just as difficult in some places to find a Catholic parish that was not an "alien temple".   These problems beset all of the Christian world.  ... Lack of passionate love for Jesus and a no commitment to Him as the unique Way back to Heaven seemed to be the heart of the matter.

Eventually, my parents were convinced that they too should enter the Catholic Church, and the three of us were welcomed into the Church at the Anglican Use parish of Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Church in Houston, Texas on the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter.  It was such a happy day to receive the Blessed Sacrament and to know that I had come home with the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph.

The Holy Spouses had told me it would be a horribly difficult road for me, but I carefully tucked that bit of information out of my mind.  I tried not to remember that they had said that it would be a very long time before I could say Mass again... if I ever would be able to say Mass again.  Funny how you try to hear the good stuff and put aside what is really hard and challenging.  Perhaps we all are more prone to hold on to what is positive than to recall any admonition or something negative.

I found that there was a lot of work for me to do among the wonderful lay faithful at Our Lady of Walsingham Parish and Shrine, and I was welcomed with open arms into the work of casting the nets and bringing in the catch.  Like any person I did some things very well, and other things were not successes at all.   I was able to develop and start RADIO WALSINGHAM ONLINE to broadcast the beautiful music of Christendom from what is sometimes called the Great Tradition.  There is never enough money to turn it into what I had a vision for it to be, but I continued as programmer and chief bottle washer throughout the very long illness that would come later.

From this period after my stroke, one of the things most clear to me remains how I had experienced such a healing after the visit of the Holy Spouses.  It energised my body and healed many wounds to my heart.  It put strength into the left side of my body which was still quite weak.  I am telling this story now because the Lord wants me to do so, and because I hope that in sharing my story some would choose Christ and come into the Church encouraged by the good news of my testimony. When I taught after coming into the Church, I would share how the Lord had given me the healing strength to work and teach among them.  Some of those who heard me who were not members of the Church came into Christ's Church.

Some people long for heavenly visions and apparitions from the saints, but from my experience no one is prepared for them in the least.  The vision or visit comes and the visit or vision ends.  Then we must go on living for Jesus just like everyone else.  We may ache inside even more because we know we were once on the mountaintop and now we are on the long road down to Jerusalem.

Some day I will write more about this.  Perhaps there are people who will be blessed by hearing of these things.  You should all remember that you need to use your own discernment.  I am not asking anyone to believe me.  I want you to believe God and to believe in Jesus and that work requires you to collaborate intimately with the Holy Spirit... not place your faith in people around you or that you hear about.

I have started to tell my story because the Lord told me it was time.  The Church is in some turmoil as is the world.  It will get very much worse.  Some of us will live to see great cities wiped off of the map.  Some may even live to see the Church have to leave Rome.  I pray that such things that I was shown do not come to pass unless they are truly the Divine Will.

What really matters is coming to Jesus.  Be baptised and believe in Christ.  Make every effort to go to Mass daily or to spiritually commune by watching Mass on television.  You can easily do this watching EWTN, Salt & Light, and the other Catholic broadcasts. You can even watch and participate on the internet.

And finally, and this is far more important than Catholics know, spend time with Jesus at Adoration or simply pay Him a visit whilst He dwells in the Tabernacle.  I say this with confidence -- though you must use your discernment -- the Lord wants His Tabernacle under His cross and directly behind the Altar.  Every time you look at the Altar that Tabernacle is to remind you that Christ is our Great High Priest and He is the Celebrant of our Holy Masses.

The Lord expects those who have the time to spend an hour with Him each day in some fashion, and for most of us prayer at Adoration is the best choice possible.  He expects it whether we are happy or sad.  Whether we get what we want or not, whether we are home or on vacation, whether we are working or at the beach ... how can we deny Him one hour a day?

There are other important things to share, and I will do so for a little while on this blog.  Then I must move on to other things the Lord wants from me.  I hope you are encouraged by reading this.  Seek the Lord, and you will find Him.  You may never have a vision of him, but you will always be able to encounter Him at the Eucharist and in helping the poor, those in need, the widows, the orphans, and those in prison.  Those who do such things encounter the Lord over and over and over again, and they receive the Lord's love in most wonderful and special ways.

Time to get back to my prayers.  The Lord bless and keep you.  Until next time,

Vincent

The Anecdotal Memory of One Healed

Note (18 June 2012): I welcome readers from SpiritDaily.com.  May God bless you in the reading of this thumbnail sketch of my story.  As some have asked, yes, I do hope to write a book about these experiences.  But, no, I don't have a publisher or anything like that yet. So please pray for me that I write what pleases the Holy Family.  I want to especially thank Fr. Byron Miller of Blessed Seelos Shrine in New Oreleans who upon my second visit let me hold and pray with Blessed Seelos actual preaching Crucifix.  More than anything I want people to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ and to learn about Blessed Father Seelos so they can get to know him and enjoy his friendship from heaven.

When I was still a priest in the Anglican Communion, I was called by the Holy Family (through their sudden appearance in my living room) to enter the Catholic Church.  I was not prepared for this.  Deo gratias that I found and was very blessed to have a wise and soft-spoken scholar-priest to welcome me and answer my questions.  I remain so grateful to Fr. James Moore, the scholar-priest, for his magnificent pastoral gift toward me as well as his catechetical instruction that helped me understand what I was experiencing in such dramatic and unsettling ways.  I find people who are coming into the Church are having such extraordinary experiences all the time, and most like me remain quiet about it until it is the right time.  I think that the new folks coming into the Ordinariate will have that same wonderful experience with their scholar-Ordinary that I had with Fr. Moore, the founding pastor of Our Lady of Walsingham Catholic Church (Anglican Use) in Houston, Texas.

When I was about to enter the Church I also encountered some Catholic converts from the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church of Canada who wanted to be sure that I knew what I was getting myself into.  I was told horror stories of other Episcopal priests who had been turned away or whose efforts strangely went nowhere.  One man, a judge I knew in Texas, said to me, "Son," (yes, I was younger then) "Son, ya' realize that we're as welcome in the Catholic Church as the mistress at the funeral."

Texans can be very colourful, but they will usually only put up with straight-shooting, as is said.  Here was a former Episcopalian telling me the worst of it because he cared about me without knowing me.  "Now some will tell ya' I'm a traitor for telling you it isn't all peaches and cream, but those are the rats I want to warn you about."  With eyes wide open I listened to what he said and because of him and his openness it cleared the way in my thinking so that I was ready to be received into the Catholic Church long before anyone in officialdom was prepared to deal with me.

Slowly over the course of years I watched the rules change again and again for a celibate former Episcopalian clergyman.  First, the Pastoral Provision no longer applied.  Then other changes.  Then it was decided that we would have to go to seminary for two years.  When I had first entered I would have gladly gone back to seminary, but after the intervening years of being jerked around, being treated badly by some Catholic priests who didn't want me coming in (because "we" would take the Church back to the Stone Age before Vatican II), and having my own experiences that could have gone into Good-bye, Good Men, I decided to simply focus on those apostolates with which I was affiliated.  I made a concerted effort to live as a member of the laity as taught by Blessed Pope John Paul II in his great work Christifideles laici.  I don't think anyone should convert to the Catholic Church before seriously engaging it in thorough study.

Anyone who knew me intimately could not figure out why I didn't go to Orthodoxy or back to Anglicanism.  For a time I did retrace my steps and found the friendship and worship of my Orthodox and Episcopalian friends life-giving and soul-sustaining.  My problem, if it could be called that, is that I knew through a heavenly visitation that the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph wanted me in the Catholic Church.  They told me it would cost me everything, but with my sacrifices offered up to the Lord Jesus, He would make use of them to heal and reunite the Church.  I could not refuse, and as I have said subsequently quoting the Apostle "whereupon I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision".

The rewards of being in Communion with the Chair of St. Peter far oustripped any suffering I might need to endure, and to this day I have believed this to be true.

My life has been a series of genuine miracles and heavenly visitations.  Consequently, I am not exactly an answer to prayer for anybody in any hierarchy.  Such folks like things to be stable, predictable, by the book ... and they want to be the only ones offering a Word from heaven.  When I entered the Catholic Church I was shocked to find how many priests loathed Fatima and despised Bl. now St. Faustina Kowolska.  I was horrified when I heard a bishop say upon hearing of the death of Sr. Lucia of Fatima, "Well, thank God, that's over."  Shepherds should be very careful about what they say.  They never know if the sheep are listening.  Truly I wasn't surprised by these little bombshells.  I knew Church history and the life of Christ Himself and understood the sources of such opposition.

One day after teaching Gregorian Chant to a brilliant group of homeschooled Catholic students I went into the Holy House Chapel in the right transept of Our Lady of Walsingham Parish in Houston, Texas.  The Holy House Chapel is a stunningly holy place and a very faithful attempt to reconstruct the Holy House of Walsingham in England.

The image of Our Lady and the Christ Child there once served in the Slipper Chapel in Walsingham, England when their image of Our Lady of Walsingham had to be removed for repairs after an attack by a vandal.  As I knelt and prayed before the Tabernacle, the statue of Our Lady of Walsingham and the Christ Child came alive to me.  The Little Lord and Our Lady spoke to me asking me if I would be willing to suffer and even to die for some very important things God the Father wanted.  I was stunned beyond all words.

Our Lady told me that her shrine in Houston would be vandalised.  I began to weep.  She said that if I was willing to suffer a great illness a greater shrine would be built to honour her and her child through the offerings and sacrifices of many.  Would I do it? 'Yes, Mother, you know I will.'

The Lord told me that a monastery would be started and later move to Ireland.  Would I be willing to suffer another greater illness at the same time for a monastery that He loved greatly ... 'Yes, Lord, of course but you must help me.'  The Little Lord looked on me with great compassion.

Then the Little Lord and the Blessed Mother both seemed to speak together.  Would I be willing to suffer even more and even to die if with the addition of my suffering and death the Protestants would begin to be brought back to the Church and the ancient wounds in her begin to be healed.  I managed a Yes, but I could say nothing more.  The vision ended.  I got up from the Chapel, and I tried to prepare my heart and soul for what would be coming.

My spiritual director helped me review all of this and bring my mind to a place of peace.  The illnesses came one on top of the other and confined me to my bed for years.  A hurricane completely destroyed my home.  The doctors told me they didn't know how I was still alive.  And then for a while I tasted clinical death and the fulness of the Kingdom of God.

I then experienced the most painful experience of my life as I was placed back into my sad, suffering, bloated body.  The return was impossibly painful for me and I wanted to go back to heaven.  I seemed to start fading away again, more There than here.  But as everyone began to expect that it was time for me to leave for good, a friend from childhood arrived having been prompted by God to come see me.

Bl. F.X. Seelos, CSsR
He brought with him a First Class relic of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, the cheerful ascetic priest of New Orleans.  As I held the relic and we prayed, I prayed for a happy death.  My friend on the other hand prayed for a miracle of healing for me.  I felt wave on wave of warm energy wash up from my hand into my brain... my poor brain that had been catastrophically wasting away.  I felt a surge of alertness in my mind and a sense of well-being touch me that I had not felt in many years.

After that I was able to travel by car for the first time in some five years.  We went to New Orleans to give thanks for the graces and favours I had received in my healing.  I was now able to walk with a the help of a walker or a rollator, and I was over the moon happy.  While I was there a Helper named Tim prayed for me in the Shrine as I stood in between Blessed Father Seelos' relics and his beloved statue of Our Lady of Sorrows.  He prayed for me with a Redemptorist preaching crucifix embedded with a major relic of the Blessed.

After he prayed for me, without thinking of it I stepped away from my rollator and walked on my own toward the prayer desk in front of the large reliquary of Blessed Seelos' remains.  For the first time in perhaps six years I knelt down at the prayer desk all by myself.  Prior to this kneeling would have been impossible with my untreatable psoriatic arthritis that had developed.  Strangers who were in the Shrine at the time who knew nothing about me were pointing toward me with tears rolling down their faces.  I looked to my friends who likewise had tear-filled eyes and expressions of total shock on their faces.

I really didn't understand what was going on at first, but I felt the overwhelming Presence of the Lord Jesus and my soul, my heart felt light as a feather, and I was filled with such joy that for me that Shrine was the happiest place on Earth.  It was the place where my friends lowered me through the roof to see Jesus... my old friends and my new friend Blessed Seelos.

It was such a shock to me and all of my family and friends to see that I no longer needed assistance. In short order over a hundred pounds of weight dropped off my body.  There were no signs of psoriatic arthritis.  No signs of suspected lupus.  No signs of several other things.  I had my first normal EEG since suffering a stroke in 1999.  My brain no longer was listed as severely atrophied, but as moderately so.  Where the great Dr. Rosa Tang had found so much evidence of unidentified strokes, there was no visible evidence of those strokes.

Now for the really amazing part.  I became well enough that I could undergo two unexpected surgeries.  One removed my gall bladder at nearly the last minute before it ruptured.  The other removed my left and right breast a pre-cancerous threat.  And then three small polyps were removed in a colonoscopy that were pre-cancerous.  I never could have survived these things without the healing I received.  In this fashion it seems to me the Lord wanted to show the value of the healing arts in addition to His miraculous power to heal.

During the scans at the time of the gall bladder surgery, a CT scan showed three tumours in my lungs.  I had never had tumours there, but I had been given two dreadful drugs that had the  side-effect of encouraging the growth of tumours and cancer.  It seemed to many that the victory of my healing was being erased, but privately Blessed Seelos had come to me in my bedroom and told me to have no cares about it.  Jesus would take care of everything.

I had another high resolution CT scan in anticipation of surgery, but there were no tumours to be found.  My Muslim pulmonologist was convinced he had witnessed a miracle.  My Catholic rheumatologist was likewise impressed by the miraculous events in my life that had turned me into a completely new person.  Nature had been reversed.

However, not everything had been healed.  A cyst in my spinal cord remained leaving me functionally disabled, and I still suffered from syringomyelia though the pains of it were profoundly reduced.  I asked the Lord why he wouldn't heal me completely, and I heard His Voice say outside of my own mind, "Who said I was finished healing you?"

I have become grateful for what he did not heal because it has kept me grounded and close to Jesus.  I am able to do most anything I want or need to do, but I still need to be careful not to overextend myself.  He also showed me that he intends to heal some of the effects of the stroke from 1999 that beset me interiorly.  No one who sees me can believe that I endured so much save for the people who witnessed these things happen to me.

For some the most telling of all was seeing my hair having grown back in after having fallen out for no apparent reason.

What I have written is merely a sketch in thumbnail, but it is clear that even so it will give encouragement to those who need it.  I can direct others to seek the intercession of Blessed Father Seelos and to go to his shrine to pray with him to the Lord, the healer of our souls.

I also hope by sharing all of this to encourage those who have not yet come into the Catholic Church to do so.  This is the real Church in all of its fulness with the real Lord Jesus Christ and all of his very real friends and family.  As Fr. Benedict Groeschel would tell you, mindful of all the frailties and faults of the human beings in the Church, 'Come on in!  It's awful!'  Yes, some things are, but it is surpassingly the Kingdom of God on Earth where the most miraculous things happen to the lay faithful every day.

And the greatest miracle for us all is our Lord's daily Real Presence in the miracle of the Holy Mass and His abiding presence in the Tabernacles of the Church, the very Living Bread which came down from heaven.  I give thanks to Blessed Father Seelos for his intercession, to the Holy Family for their direct guidance in my life, to Blessed Pope John Paul II for his prophetic vision which made such a wonderful place of homecoming for me at the Parish and Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.  But above all praise be to Jesus Christ for simply being who he is, my Lord and my God.  Laudetur Jesus Christus!
+Hosanna in excelsis.

Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos

+
Dear friends and readers,

After years of illness and being largely confined to bed, I have received a miraculous healing through the intercession of Blessed Father Francis Xavier Seelos, C.Ss.R. of New Orleans.

I was not able to walk on my own and had to use a rollator, walker, wheelchair, or walking sticks/canes.  After being prayed for at the Shrine of Blessed Seelos in New Orleans I no longer needed any assistance either from such mechanisms or from others in order to walk about.  I can even run and dance now.  Those who know me know what a total miracle this is.

As for those who need evidence, before my healing my EEG was always abnormal and a source of alarm.  Now my EEG is normal.
Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos

I praise the Lord for my healing, a healing which has been granted for a purpose.  First, I hope to promote the cause of Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos and to encourage everyone to make of him their friend in Heaven.  I also encourage the sick and suffering to ask for the intercession of Blessed Seelos for I have found him to be a most happy saint eager to help all those in need.

Now mind you, he is not yet a saint, and I do not know if my results can qualify for the sort of miracle for which they are seeking in order to raise him to the altar as a Saint with a capital "S".  But regardless of his official status there is no doubt in my mind or heart that he is truly a great saint of God and a continuing witness of the Lord Jesus Christ preaching to all of the Lord Jesus through these miraculous healings and favours received.

Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.

PRAY FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE GULF COAST!

REMEMBER not Lord our iniquities, nor the iniquities of our forefathers. Spare us good Lord, spare thy people, whom thou hast redeemed with thy most precious blood, and be not angry with us forever.
The 1637 Book of Common Prayer

From an online New York Times article:

“More than a third report children with new rashes or breathing problems, or who are nervous, fearful or “very sad” since the spill began. And even though the gusher of oil has been stanched, almost a quarter of residents still fear that they will have to move.

“Those are some of the findings of the first major survey of Gulf Coast residents conducted since the BP well was capped. The survey, conducted from July 19 to 25 by the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, suggests that the spill’s effects have not been contained along with the oil itself.

" “There’s been a very overt effort by BP and the Coast Guard to project a sense that the crisis is over, but this is far from the case,” said Dr. Irwin Redlener, the director of the center and president of the Children’s Health Fund, a sponsor of the survey. “Our survey shows a persistent and overwhelming level of anxiety among families living near the coast, driven by both medical symptoms in their children as well as a substantial level of psychological stress.”

From the 1637 Book of Common Prayer - "Laud's Book":

O LORD, look down from heaven, behold, visit and relieve these thy servants. Look upon them with the eyes of thy mercy, give them comfort and sure confidence in thee, defend them from the danger of the enemie, and keep them in perpetuall peace and safety through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessèd Miguel Pro, Martyr

Blessed Miguel Pro wrote the following prayer to Our Lady of Sorrows ten days before his death, when he instinctively sensed what was going to happen to him:

Let me live beside you, my Mother,
to keep you company in your solitude and your deepest grief!

Let me feel again in my soul
the sadness of your eyes and the abandonment of your heart!

On the road of my life I do not want
to taste the joy of Bethlehem,
adoring
the infant Jesus in your virginal arms.
I do not want to enjoy the dear presence of Jesus Christ
in your humble house of Nazareth.

Nor do I wish to unite myself

with the choir of angels

in your glorious Assumption!

In my life I want the jeers

and the derision of Calvary;

I want the slow agony of your Son,

the contempt, the ignominy,
the infamy of the Cross.

My wish, O Sorrowful Virgin,
is to
stand beside you, to strengthen my spirit through your tears,
to consume my sacrifice through your martyrdom,

to sustain my heart with your solitude,
to love my God and your God
through the immolation of my whole being.

Through the intercession of Blessed Miguel Pro, I pray for the miracle of complete healing and restoration of my body by the healing virtue of Christ the King.

I stand in grave need of your prayers, gentle reader, and I beg you to pray to the Lord for my healing through the intercession of Blessed Miguel Pro. God be praised.
+Laus Deo!

Lord, we do not presume to come to thee

They will gaze on Him whom they have pierced.

Lord, we do not presume to come to thee
As equals or as those of high degree,
But on our knees we cry and sing to thee.
Alleluia!

Great is our Lord who heals the broken heart,
Who saves the weak and bids us do our part
To conquer evil and God's love impart.
Alleluia!

Lord Jesus Christ, we know the time is near
For that great day when thou wilt soon appear.
By thy good Spirit help us persevere.
Alleluia!

O help us grow in living faith and grace
Until we see thy mercy face to face,
And with thy saints in glory take our place.
Alleluia!
