Heart of Jesus, think of me.

Heart of Jesus, think of me.
Eyes of Jesus, look on me.
Face of Jesus, comfort me.
Hands of Jesus, bless me.
Feet of Jesus, guide me.
Arms of Jesus, hold me.
Body of Jesus, feed me.
Blood of Jesus, wash me.
Jesus, make me thus thine own,
Here and in the world to come. Amen.

To Jesus' Heart, all burning

+
I was surprised to learn that this hymn is reviled by those who think the average music in a Catholic parish is super.  Perhaps it is chromaticism that rankles those who prefer guitars and only three chords per song.  I don't know.  I only know that these rousing old Catholic hymns stir my heart and make me ready to do whatever the Lord asks of me.

Anglican Patrimony: A Manual of Catholic Devotion

From the Propers for the Sacred Heart from the Anglican Missal
A Manual of Catholic Devotion, pp. 346-348.

COLLECT
O GOD, who hast suffered the Heart of thy Son to be wounded by our sins and in that very Heart hast bestowed on us the abundant riches of thy love: grant that the devout homage of our hearts which we render unto him may of thy mercy be deemed a recompense acceptable in thy sight.  Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

OFFERTORY
THY rebuke hath broken my heart, I am full of heaviness:  I looked for some to have pity upon me, but there was no man : neither found I any to comfort me.

COMMUNION
ONE of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

POST-COMMUNION
O LORD Jesus Christ, who hast given unto us to taste of the sweetness of thy gracious Heart: kindle in us by these holy mysteries the fire of thy divine charity, that we may learn to despise the joys of earth and to set our affections on things above: Who livest and reignest.

+Deo gratias.

Prayer from the Heart

Heart of Jesus, torn by the spear,
have mercy on me, a miserable offender.

Chalice of the Fire of Heaven,  I can see no shepherd to guide me to the Living Water I need.  I am alone among the rocks.  I have come to grief and trouble.  Shield me from despair.  Can anyone be trusted?  Oh Heart of Jesus, have mercy upon me.

Manger of Divine Mercy, I have no place to lay my head, no house to call my own, all of my own have fled and I have come to grief and trouble.  Though I am beastly may I please find a place to rest in the manger of Thy Heart.  Oh Heart of Jesus, have mercy upon me.

Furnace of Divine Love, I am out of love for my fellow man.  Please give me Thy love with which to love them and in loving them love Thee.  Oh Heart of Jesus, have mercy upon me, have mercy upon me. Lord, save me in this day of trouble.  Master, save me from despair.

Heart of Jesus, torn by the spear,
have mercy on me, a miserable offender.

Thou, Lord only, Thou alone art worthy of trust.  Thou alone art the Good Shepherd of Thy Sheep.  Thou alone wouldst leave Thy flock to seek me out.  Thou alone wouldst carry me home with broken legs upon Thy shoulders.  Though friends flee, Thou art my true Friend.  Thou alone art my reason and my hope.  Thou alone art my Lord and my God.

In the midst of the Temple I shall praise thee.  Thou hast saved me and set me upon a rock that is higher than I.  Thou hast come down to the Pit so that I should never be without Thee.  Thou hast lifted me up. Thou hast carried me.  Thou hast given me the wings of morning to fly up unto Thee.  Thou hast opened Heaven's Gate and received me.

Thou hast returned me to the fallen earth, but Thou hast kept my feet from stumbling.  Thou hast revealed Thy Truth, and by Thy Light thou guidest me.  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death in the land of the living, Thou art beside me.  Though I be compassed about with the armies of Babylon and the traitors in Thy courts, I shall not be moved for Thou art my Rock and my Peace.

Heart of Jesus, torn by the spear,
have mercy on me, a miserable offender.

Smith: Sacred Heart of Jesus
Have mercy, Lord, upon them that hate me.  Have mercy upon them that have abandoned me.  Have mercy upon them that hurt me and them that I have harmed.  Have mercy upon them against whom in my hurt I have raged.  Oh let me not be numbered with the nations who imagine a vain thing.  Keep me mindful of how low I am in Thy sight but how dearly loved within thine all-fiery Heart.

Take up into Thine arms all who curse me and lay waste to my name : raise them up to the Innermost of Thy Heart where I am not worthy to tread.  Bless them and lead them to far greater holiness than I could imagine within thy limitless Heart, provided that I may grow as holy as Thou desirest for me to be, for Thou Lord art holy.

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY Lord God of Sabaoth:
heaven and earth overflow with the Majesty of Thy Glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

Heart of Jesus, torn by the spear,
have mercy on me, a miserable offender.

"I have no other dream ..."

I have no other dream than to conform myself at every moment with the suffering and Eucharistic life of our Divine Saviour, to unite my host with His Host, so that my heart may be consecrated with His Heart to the Glory of the Father for the salvation of the world. For the more my life is submitted to God and in conformity with the Redeemer, the more I shall participate in the achievement of His Work.

A Prayer from Vultus Christi

This beautiful prayer comes from Father Mark of the most inspiring blog Vultus Christi. The entire post that concludes with this prayer is magnificent.

Prayer

I pray thee, O Most Holy Virgin Mary,
that I might hear the Heartbeat of redeeming Love,
and that with Thee
I might adore the Heart of Jesus
formed in Thy womb by the Holy Spirit.

Through the Holy Spirit,
by whose power and overshadowing Thou didst become
the living tabernacle of the Heart of God,
may my soul rejoice in Thy every visitation
and leap in recognition of Him
who through Thee deigns to come to me.

Through the Holy Spirit
by whom Thou wert illumined by faith,
quickened by hope,
and inflamed with charity,
grant that I may believe all that the Sacred Heart of Jesus has revealed,
never despair of His boundless Mercy,
and burn with the fire He came to cast upon the earth.

In the Holy Spirit,
Thou adorest the Heart of Thy Son as the Heart of Thy God;
in that same Holy Spirit,
grant that I may adore the Heart of my God
as the Heart that, hidden in Thy womb, once beat beneath Thy own:
the same Sacred Heart that, pierced upon the Cross,
fills the heavens with glory
and the earth with mercy.
Amen.

Heart of the Holy Child

from The English Catholic Hymn Book
The S. Matthew Edition, No. 977

........HEART of the Holy Child
........Hide me in thee,
........Purest and undefiled
........Purify me.
........Joy of my earthly life,
........Far from sin and passions rife,
........Troubling this world of strife,
........Keep me with thee.

........Sweet Child of Bethlehem,
........Open thine heart,
........Lessons from Nazareth
........Deign to impart;
........Mary and Joseph dear
........Let us be to Jesus near,
........With you we shall not fear
........From him to part.

An Act of Reparation

THE "GOLDEN ARROW" PRAYER

May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and unutterable Name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified, in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen.
