From a Coptic Discourse on St. Michael

+
My post today draws from an Encomium of Archbishop Severus, Patriarch of Antioch for the Festival of St. Michael the Archangel.  We have E.A. Wallis Budge to thank for the translation from the Coptic original with Arabic marginal notes.  Budge among others dates the Encomium of Severus to the 7th century. A few others place it at an earlier date.

Below you will find a small section from the beginning of the discourse on the Festival of Holy Michael Archangel, and then we pass to the conclusion with its strong declarations concerning St. Michael and his aid, the rôle God has given him, and the great need the Church has of his intervention and assistance in overcoming the evil one and his minions.
